The wilderness surrounding the Castle provides an excellent habitat to many species of wildlife. You will find deer in the more remote areas or possibly the Castle gardens, whilst otters and seals can often be observed in the bay opposite the castle. For those taking boat trips, it is likely that you will see whales and dolphin. Bird spotters will be rewarded with sightings of Sandpiper, Dippers, Cormorants, Shag, and Herons and of course a variety of raptor including Buzzards and Eagles. Wildflowers also attract a diverse number of butterfly and other insects such as dragonfly.
